If you are into the great outdoors, then don't miss the Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum, situated on 164 hectares with stunning views overlooking Lake Burrendong. This unique place was started in 1964 by local plantsman and visionary George Althofer, his brother Peter and a group of likeminded local committed to the conservation of Australian flora. George is considered one of the founding fathers of Australian horticulture. It has been operated by the community since then in the face of crippling droughts and lack of funding. It is an essential part of the ecological and social fabric of the region, and a home for the conservation of threatened species through its ex situ conservation projects.

Pack your pushbike, a picnic hamper, bird watching binoculars and your very best walking shoes. Start at the Visitor Information Centre before you head off to explore. Entry is by donation (box in the Visitor Centre)
