- 55/59 Buckenbah St, Geurie NSW 2818, Australia
The launch of a heritage building in Geurie which hosts an art gallery and cafe. With a children's playground and wheelchair friendly loo and access to both the gallery and cafe, Buckenbah Collective is investing in Geurie with a long term vision of returning the main street as a well loved and vibrant place of commerce and community, for those in the village of Geurie and visitors.
The refurbishment of the old Sarquins General Store (built in 1908), which became the agency for Bennett and Wood Bicycles, then Rougalls and Miss Ethel Darling Cafe has been an important place in Geurie. From 1924 Alf Noldt operated a forge (blacksmith) at the rear of the building, whilst the Cafe was operated by Mr & Mrs Campbell, and from 1938 by George Kaloutsis and his family until 1962, when it became Costello’s Café, and then the Geurie Nursery operated by George Freeman and Jim Dimond. From the 1990's it became Alladin's Cave (William and Jennifer Gordon), and then from 2000 until 2011, the Foley family owned the building and the Geurie Heritage Garden Cafe & Antique Store operated.
In early 2022, Buckenbah Collective purchased the space and have spent the last 2-and-half years renovating and renewing the space to create a modern art gallery and gorgeous cafe and function space, with a commercial caterers kitchen. Jacinta Haycock Artist & Gallery & Jessica Wood's The Aviary Cafe are establishing a beautiful destination to visit, enjoy an experience great for all the senses! Terre Rouge Fine Food has operated in Dubbo for many years before the Woods purchasing a farm in Geurie, and the new providore offering local farming produce and lush food options is a true delight. Celiac & gluten free options, as well as accessible for wheelchairs, zimmerframes and those unsteady on their feet. Baby-change facilities and children's playground, sandpit & outdoor kitchen in a safe fenced area makes it welcoming for all ages.
