Black Cat Cocktails: A Timeless Tradition Reimagined
At Black Cat Cocktails, we draw inspiration from an interesting piece of history. In the 18th century, when sailors docked in foreign ports and townsfolk were often illiterate, visual cues—like the symbolic black cat—became a beacon to guide them to the local watering hole.
Building on the stunning ambiance of Four Cats Coffee, the Black Cat spirit continues. We dim the lights, shift the mood, and invite you into a space dedicated to fine cocktails. Co-owners Jess and Tommy wanted to bring something unique and special to the beautiful Wellington community. With Tommy’s 12 years of experience and Jess’s creative flair, the Black Cat was born.
Our journey began at Wellington’s vibrant Fong Lees Lane cultural festival, where we introduced our cocktail booth. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from locals and visitors alike gave us the confidence to open our doors in October. Since then, guests have been enjoying the charm of our garden area—sipping cocktails and watching sunsets during spring and summer evenings. As the seasons change, our cozy fireside setting offers a perfect escape.
The stories we hear from our patrons, as they reminisce about their experiences in this historic building, remind us how special this space truly is. We feel both proud and privileged to be part of this legacy.
Join us Fridays and Saturdays from 5pm onwards, where we serve up a wide range of classic cocktails alongside Black Cat’s signature creations and delicious grazing boards. Cheers!
