About this event

Friday October 25 sees Wellington’s only one-way street closed off to traffic and turned into a magnificent Chinese marketplace!

Celebrating the diverse history of Wellington, while surrounded by the diverse blend of cultures which dominated the past histories and shaped Wellington into the active and friendly township it is today. The award-winning Fong Lees Lane event will run for its second year, attracting an array of multicultural food vendors and members of our community including martial arts demonstrations by local students. Lanterns made by the children of Wellington will complement the lanes atmosphere and awaken the rustic feel of old-world Chinatown. There will buskers and music, dance, Wiradjuri smoking ceremony, martial arts demonstrations and 12 international food stalls to choose from; something to suit everyone. You will be enchanted by the Chinese dragon that mysteriously appears in the lane at nightfall as it dances its way along the lane.

Chinese dragons are believed to possess qualities that include great power, dignity, fertility, wisdom and auspiciousness. The appearance of a dragon is both fearsome and bold and brings blessings of good rains and good harvest to our community.

We welcome everyone to come to our bustling out-door event; find a seat in our many eating areas; catch up with old friends or make new ones, relax and check out the night’s entertainment. Do you want to be a part of Lantern Parade? Keep an eye out for our Lantern workshops, to be run in the month of October. And the kid’s art project workshop with Jack Randall, the final work to be hung in the lane way. Fong Lees Lane is an all-encompassing community event and we can’t wait to see you here.
