Join us for the Official Opening of Sarah McEwan: Unbind Me with refreshments will be served on arrival.

Unbind Me is a fractured and questioning wrestle with historical Western philosophy and how it has created myths about the ‘right’ and ‘true’ and ‘natural’ properties of the world and how, still today, these legacies have dangerous and real consequences in our contemporary society. A genealogical line is drawn from Plato (c428 - 348 BCE) through to Elizabeth Grosz (1952) that outlines both the status quo and counter narratives that have occurred over time. Each artwork is informed by quotes from culturally defining philosophers and theorists who have set the agenda in their lifetime and beyond. From large paintings spilling with fabric, to intimate works on paper, the artworks are searching for a deeper meaning of our reality and how we arrive at our beliefs.
