Dubbo’s central location, with its road, rail and air transport linkages, is an immense economic advantage. There is still an opportunity for the City to attract investment based on its location and access to four major domestic markets (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide).
- Road: the City is centrally located on the Newell Highway corridor which is emerging as the most important freight corridor in NSW; the Mitchell-Barrier Highway which provides an east-west link across NSW; and the Golden Highway provides a link into Newcastle.
- Rail: links extend into Western NSW through Dubbo, and into both Sydney and Newcastle. The proposed rail link through Eastern Australia from Melbourne to Darwin would also pass through Dubbo.
- Air: 130 daily flights weekly to and from Dubbo City Airport with services to Sydney and Broken Hill. The City’s airport is owned and operated by Dubbo City Council who has invested significantly in the facility by providing a modern terminal and enabling infrastructure that supports airline activity.
